SUBJECT: STUDENT CREDIT BALANCES
Financial aid includes all awards detailed on the student award letter and student work provided by the university. If a student receives financial aid in excess of expenses, the remaining financial aid will be released to the student.
Financial aid is applied to the student account as it is received from the appropriate program. After student expenses are paid in full, financial aid subsequently applied to the student account results in a credit balance. Credit balances are released to students as early in the term as possible while providing adequate processing time to ensure that all term costs have been applied to the student account. No financial aid can be released to the student until the student account is paid in full.
Credit balances are issued to students throughout the term, generally on a weekly basis. The credit balance must be in place on the student account on Tuesday in order for a credit balance refund check to be issued on Friday of that week. Additional information regarding the processes necessary for the attainment and release of a credit balance is available from business office personnel.
If a credit balance is released to a student and expenses are subsequently incurred by the student and charged to the student account, payment of these expenses is due in full immediately. If a credit balance results from a financial aid award that is subsequently revoked, the student is responsible for immediate repayment of the canceled financial aid funds.
