WBU Administration Recognizes Employee Award Recipients

PLAINVIEW – 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University administrators recognized faculty and staff for their years of service and contributions to the university by announcing the 2020-21 award recipients. Typically held as a luncheon for the university employees, this year’s announcement came via video as 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ continues to practice COVID-19 protocol with physical distancing standards and by avoiding gatherings of large groups.

The Staff University Service Award went to Coralyn Dillard, director of health services. This award is given to an outstanding individual who provides exceptional service to 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ through special committee work, unique or outstanding recruiting activities, direction of short-term projects or programs that benefit the university, or extraordinary leadership in university matters. Dillard also received the Staff Excellence Award that is given to an employee whose dedication and commitment to their job is exhibited through their performance.

The Staff Community Service Award was given to Pam Kennedy, administrative assistant in the School of Music. This award is given to a staff member who provides exceptional service to the community through their church, civic organization, board or agency, civic committees or other volunteer work.

The Staff Campus/Student Involvement Award went to Nicole Adams, coordinator of student activities. This award is given each year to someone who is actively involved in student activities and attends sporting events, music activities, theatre performances, or helps with homecoming, Big Weekend, graduation and other student-focused events.

Dr. Scott Strovas, assistant professor of music history, received the Faculty University Service Award. This award recognizes an outstanding faculty member for special committee work, recruiting activities, directing short-term projects, or other outstanding leadership in university matters.

Dr. Scott Franklin, professor of mathematics and computer science, received the Faculty Community Service Award. This award is given to a faculty member who has served the community through his or her church, civic organization, community boards, agencies or other civic involvement or volunteer work.

Dr. Karen Beth Strovas received the Faculty Scholarship Award, given to a faculty member who publishes research or presents research findings at a professional society meeting, created a work of art or musical composition of merit or improved academic credentials. Dr. Strovas is the associate dean of the School of Languages and Literature and an associate professor of English.

The Faculty Contribution Award was given to Dr. Richard Fountain, professor of piano. This award is given to a faculty member who has shown exceptional leadership in a professional organization, been nominated for professional awards or who has participated in regional tournaments, forums, festivals or conventions.

Dr. Fountain was also the recipient of The Distinguished Faculty Service Award, presented by the Alumni Association to a faculty member who has served at least 10 years. The Distinguished Staff Service Award, presented by the Alumni Association to a staff member who has served the university at least 10 years, was given to Trena Segovia.
