SUBJECT: PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT

Members of the faculty and staff on part-time appointments shall be paid at rates that are commensurate with their abilities and the time they devote to part-time work. However, the rates of pay for persons employed on a part-time basis shall not exceed the proportional salary rates for full-time employment. Part-time employment shall be considered approved or disapproved and budgeted in the same manner as other appointments. Part-time employees may not work more than 29 hours per week without approval by the appropriate Cabinet administrator.

A part-time employee in one department of the university may accept part-time employment in another department, provided approval is obtained in advance from the employee's current department head. This approval is necessary to assure proper coordination of employment when more than one department is involved. If the employee is non-exempt from overtime provisions, payment is subject to a minimum of overtime rates of time and one-half normal rates for time worked in excess of 40 hours per week. If, when two part-time positions are combined, a full-time position is created, the employee is eligible for full-time benefits.

A full-time employee may, with the approval of the supervisor, accept additional part-time employment of a temporary or intermittent nature. The requested additional employment, however, must not interfere nor conflict with the individual's current position and responsibilities. If the part-time employment is a position within 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University, overtime provisions as stated above are applicable.

No such arrangements may be made unless adequate budgetary provisions exist and must be approved by the chief financial officer and the president of the university.
