SUBJECT: DISCRIMINATION AND DISCRIMINATORY HARASSMENT

In compliance with federal law, including provisions of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University does not illegally discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, age or disability in admissions, or in the administration of its education policies, programs, and activities. Under federal law, the university may discriminate on the basis of religion in order to fulfill its purposes.

In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the university does not illegally discriminate on the basis of gender in the administration of its education policies, programs and activities. Inquiries or complaints should be directed to the president.

Discriminatory Harassment - 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University is committed to providing an environment in which all persons are safe from harassment and intimidation based on his or her race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age or disability. Harassment can include verbal or physical conduct that denigrates or shows hostility or aversion toward an individual because of his/her race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age or disability, or that of his/her relatives, friends or associates, and that:

  1. has the purpose of effect of creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment;
  2. has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work performance;
  3. otherwise adversely affects an individual's employment opportunities.

Such harassment is contrary to the Christian standard of conduct expected of all members of the university community, student, staff and faculty.

Harassing conduct includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. epithets, slurs, negative stereotyping, or threatening, intimidating, or hostile acts, that relate to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age or disability, and
  2. written or graphic material that denigrates or shows hostility or aversion toward an individual or group because of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age or disability and that is placed on walls, bulletin boards, or elsewhere on the employer's premises, or circulated in the workplace.

Any person who engages in harassment will be subject to disciplinary action including a warning, suspension, termination or expulsion. Personnel who have a complaint regarding harassment or discriminatory harassment should contact their administrative cabinet member who will work with the Office of Human Resources to conduct an investigation in accordance with the university's grievance policy (see policy 2.7.3 and policy 2.7.2).

Sexual Harassment - 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University is committed to providing its students, faculty and staff with an environment free from implicit and explicit coercive behavior used to control, influence or affect the well-being of any member of the college community. Sexual harassment of any person is inappropriate, unacceptable and contrary to the Christian standards of conduct expected of all members of the university community, students, staff and faculty (see policy 2.7.6).
