SUBJECT: UNIVERSITY WORK WEEK
Salaried Employees/Full-time - As provided in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University specifically identifies all full-time positions as subject to, or exempt from, the overtime provisions of the act. With the exemptions provided by the FLSA, the university considers all other full-time positions as being subject to the provisions of the FLSA. All exempted positions are identified on the job description, employment contracts or payroll authorizations.
Plainview campus - Although full-time, nonexempt Plainview employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. The pay rate is based on a forty (40) hour work week. The 2.25 hours difference from the 37.75 hour work week and the forty (40) hour work week should be considered an incentive and not a right.
Under the workweek arrangement established by the university, full-time, nonexempt Plainview employees accumulate 2.25 hours per week which may be used during the week accumulated to support those normal university functions, such as graduation, registration, in-service training, audit procedures, and new student orientations, which may occur outside of the 37.75 hours. Although the university establishes specific days to close for holidays, this schedule may be adjusted for certain employees to accommodate specified university functions. Approval must be granted before a full-time, nonexempt employee can work in excess of forty (40) hours in a given week. If approval is granted, payment at the rate of one and one-half times the normal pay is simultaneously approved. For full time salaried employees, the hourly rate is calculated by dividing the annual salary by 2080 hours.
External campuses - Although full-time, nonexempt external campus employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. The pay rate is based on a forty (40) hour work week. The 2.25 hours difference from the 37.75 hour work week and the forty (40) hour work week should be considered an incentive and not a right.

University-wide - The university work week is established as Saturday through Friday.
Work schedules for individual employees may be structured by the supervisor so as to meet the needs of students, campus offices, and the public; to accommodate late hours for customer service; to accommodate the needs of university constituents during the lunch hour; and to accommodate the special work needs of the university or of an individual office. Special work needs include, but are not limited to, such university functions as graduation, registration, in-service training, audit procedures, new student orientations, and other periods of increased time demands.
Salaried Employees/Part-time - The official work week for part-time, salaried employees is defined at the time the position is approved and budgeted. The work week must be specified on the Personnel Requisition Form and included on the payroll authorization/contract when the individual is employed.
Hourly Wage Employees - The work week for hourly wage employees is assigned by the supervisor and will be paid on an hourly basis. Without prior approval, hourly wage employees will not work more hours than those budgeted for the position.
If approved, part-time or hourly employees who work in excess of forty hours in a given week, must receive overtime pay at the rate of one and one-half times the normal pay.
