Purpose
As a signatory to a variety of agreements designed to ensure optimum educational experiences for members of our active duty armed forces, their reserve components and the National Guard, 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University is committed to complying with all provisions of those agreements and applicable federal and state laws and regulations. This policy consolidates and codifies a number of those provisions as 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University policy.
- Prior to enrollment in a degree program or a course of study and prior to packaging or arranging student loans or alternative financing programs, the Financial Aid Office will ensure each applicant to the University is informed of the availability of Federal financial aid not administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs as well as financial aid offered by the institution.
- 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University does not have enrollment agreements, and no student will be automatically enrolled in a course or program of study without the student’s express approval of the enrollment.
- Each student will be provided information regarding the requirements to graduate from a program. Requirements for programs of study and for graduation are published in the University’s academic catalog and each student will be provided an individualized degree plan detailing classes required to complete the course of study requested by the student and in which the student is enrolled. This individualized plan will include courses accepted for credit in transfer, credit achieved through testing and other sources for which the University awarded the student credit.
- The University’s administration and institutional accreditation liaison will ensure that approval is obtained as required from the appropriate accrediting entity before enrolling students in courses or programs of study, including both institutional and specialized/programmatic accreditation entities for programs where specialized or programmatic accreditation has been obtained. Policy 1.3.3 details specifics for ensuring appropriate approval is obtained from the institutional accreditor.
- As outlined in the University’s academic catalog, members of the armed forces, including the reserve components and the National Guard, will be readmitted to the University if such members are temporarily unavailable or must suspend enrollment due to serving in the armed forces. The University’s academic catalog also describes a variety of options available to students for accommodating short absences.
- The Vice President of External Campuses will serve as the University’s point of contact for members of the military community, including family members, who need assistance with academic counseling, financial counseling, disability counseling or other information about completing a program of study. The Vice President of External Campuses will assess the requests for assistance and either respond or refer the individual to the appropriate offices and persons for the requested information.
- Policy 1.8.1, Student Recruitment and Enrollment, prohibits deceptive or persistent recruiting techniques, including on military installations. These prohibitions include making three or more unsolicited contacts in a one-month period and engaging in same-day recruitment and registration. Policy 1.8.1 also prohibits pay inducements including gratuities, favor, discounts, entertainment, hospitality, loans, transportation, lodging, meals or other items with a monetary value greater than a de minimis amount to any individual or entity, including third party lead generators or marketing forms. This prohibition does not apply to salaries paid to employees; fees paid to contractors that comply with all applicable laws for securing enrollments of students or obtaining access to educational assistance; or scholarships, grants and tuition reductions provided by the University.
