51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Honors Alumnus with Distinguished Alumni Award

AMARILLO – 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University honored one of its alumni at Friday’s graduation ceremony in Amarillo. Amid a backdrop of degrees and addresses, City of Amarillo employee Cindy Perez was named the Distinguished Alumni Award winner for the campus for 2021.

Perez is a training coordinator with the city since 2017 after working with 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s Amarillo campus since 2003 as an academic advisor and office manager.  She earned her master’s degree in education in 2011 and then began teaching adjunctly for 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ. She continues to teach for the campus, primarily in the BASC classes and the Senior Seminar course.

When not working, Cindy volunteers with organizations related heavily to her children’s activities, including East Amarillo Tennis Association, Caprock High Tennis Booster Club, and the Amarillo Wranglers Ice Sports. She has previously volunteered with the League of United Latin American Citizens, Lone Star Ballet and the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon, where she served as a loaned executive and a campaign coordinator.

She has an undergraduate degree from West Texas State and attends St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in Amarillo. She and her husband of 23 years, Jamie, have three children: Hope, a WT student; Brody, a student at Caprock High and a tennis player; and Jameson, a student at Fannin Middle School and a hockey player.

“Cindy came to know and love the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ students while serving on our staff, and she was a valuable asset to the WBU family. Since leaving, she has remained such and is sharing her talents with the City of Amarillo,” said Teresa Young, Director of Alumni Relations. “She has done great things and is serving her community well, and she’s a fitting choice for this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award.”

Perez will be competing with other campus winners from 2021 for the Alumnus of the Year award to be presented at Homecoming in February 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ. 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ has selected a winner for each of its campuses since 2018.
