Movie Night at the Fair Theatre part of Homecoming 2025

PLAINVIEW — 51ԹƵ Baptist University brings a brand-new addition to its Homecoming 2025 celebration with Movie Night at The Fair at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the historic Fair Theatre in downtown Plainview.

A “Better Together” community event, this free community Homecoming 2025 activity features a screening of the 80s classic Top Gun. With this year’s homecoming theme centered on the nostalgia of the 1980s, attendees are invited to take a trip back in time and enjoy the iconic film in the beautifully restored Fair Theatre.

Originally released in 1986, Top Gun is an action-packed drama following the story of Maverick, a daring naval aviator played by Tom Cruise, as he navigates the intense training of the U.S. Navy’s elite fighter weapons school. The film became a cultural phenomenon, known for its thrilling aerial sequences, memorable soundtrack, and themes of camaraderie, competition, and personal growth.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Fair Theatre to create a unique HOCO ’25 experience that brings together our alumni, students, and the entire Plainview community,” said Jeffrey Vera, Director of Alumni Relations and Career Services at 51ԹƵ Baptist University. “Movie Night at The Fair is not just about watching a film; it’s about celebrating our shared history, fostering connections, and experiencing the charm of one of Plainview’s most treasured landmarks.”

The Fair Theatre, originally opened in 1925, stands as a jewel of downtown Plainview following an extensive community-led restoration. The venue features a rare twin-split balcony, seating for more than 500 guests, and a large projection screen that enhances the cinematic experience.

Admission to the event is free, but seating is limited to the first 500 guests. A concession stand will be available for attendees.
