Alpha Mu Gamma
Beta Beta Chapter
Alpha Mu Gamma was established on April 29, 1931 at Los Angeles City College and was the first and largest foreign language honor society in the country. Its primary purpose is to honor students for outstanding achievement during their first year of college-level foreign language study, but students can be admitted at any stage of their college career if they have earned two "A" grades in a foreign language class.
Alpha Mu Gamma has over 300 chapters located in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico at public and private universities.
The Beta Beta Chapter at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ was re-established in the Fall of 2010 and had its first member induction the spring of the following year. This society meets Thursdays at 5 p.m. and its activities include:
- The publication of the quarterly Newsletter
- Biennial national conventions
- Regional conferences at which students are able to meet others who share their interest in foreign languages
- Chapter meetings and special chapter activities of every sort
- The sponsorship of National Foreign Language Week
- Distribution of its posters each year in celebration of the Week
- The annual awarding of five scholarships.
