Dean, School of Business

LOCATION: 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University – Plainview Campus. The dean will be required to be on site at the Plainview Campus.

SUPERVISED BY: Vice President of Academic Affairs

POSITION CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: The dean directly supervises the School of Business associate deans, the full­time online and Plainview campus faculty, and staff assigned by budget to the school. Deans also supervise adjunct faculty teaching online and on the Plainview campus.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the school and reports directly to the VPAA.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

The dean is responsible for the annual revision of the Academic Catalog that pertain to the School of Business; however, all catalog additions, deletions, or revisions must be approved by the Academic Council or Graduate Council.

The dean is responsible for monitoring and reporting issues with the facilities and property used by the School of Business and its programs.

The dean is responsible for the Planning, Budgeting and Effectiveness Report (PBER), the annual budget, travel expenditures, end of year reports and the WBUonline schedule of business courses.

The dean must lead the institutional effectiveness effort for the school which includes program reviews, faculty reviews and other information which is required by SACSCOC and any business school accreditations.

The dean will complete all EFQ documentation according to the specifications set by the VPAA.

The dean must lead the school to abide by WBU’s Policies and Procedures.

The dean must turn in all reports in a timely manner as requested by, but not limited to, the Dean’s Annual List as provided by the VPAA. 

The dean will advise undergraduate and graduate students, serve on School and University committees, engage in professional development activities, engage in recruiting and retention initiatives, participate in faculty meetings, graduation ceremonies, and service appropriate to the university.

The dean must be competent in the use of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s adopted online teaching and retention management systems, including the satisfactory completion of all necessary annual training to reach and maintain that competency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment to and an agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University in particular. The dean must be a Christian and active in a local Christian congregation. The dean must represent the University’s spiritual emphasis to students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and purpose. 

Education: Earned PhD or DBA in a business discipline from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Recent experience in administration of faculty in a college or university setting.
  2. Successful applicants will have the following skills or abilities:
  3. Fluency in the English language with excellent writing and speaking skills;
  4. The ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with no direct supervision;
  5. Proficiency with computers, technology, and related educational/classroom equipment; 
  6. A strong interest in teaching and leading in the growth and development of students;
  7. An ability to lead followers in a professional and collaborative style;
  8. The ability and desire to apply Christian principles in the workplace.

Work Environment: The work environment for this position is a standard office setting. Employees will work primarily at a desk or workstation, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.  The office maintains a controlled temperature.  Noise levels are generally moderate, with typical office sounds such as conversations and office machinery. 

Hours of Work: Plainview campus - Although full-time, nonexempt Plainview employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week. Normal work days on all campuses are Monday through Friday.

The dean will teach twelve credit hours over the twelve-month contractual period, with his teaching schedule to be negotiated with the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA). Vacation is allowed and must be mutually agreed upon with the VPAA.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
