Steps to Complete Professional Certification
The following steps need to be completed for all of the non-teacher certifications (Principal, School Counselor, Education Diagnostician and Superintendent). Candidates are required to meet all TEA guidelines, GPA requirements and background (criminal history) information.
51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ has a rolling admission for the non-teacher certifications. Depending upon the amount of coursework taken during each section, class rotations and practicum experiences, the professional certifications can be completed within 2 years. However, most candidates complete the certification in a 3-year period. Any additional requirements for particular professional certification are listed in the respective sections below and in the program links.
Admission to Grad School
- File completed application for the Professional Education Program and Grad School
- Meet GPA and degree requirements for admission to Grad School and the specific degree requirements
- Indicate specific non-teacher certification desired
Admission to the Education Preparation Program
- Provide a copy of a valid teacher certification
- Provide evidence of required minimum years teaching experience
- Submit service record
- Interview
- Apply to the Education Preparation Program
- Submit autobiography
- TEA Required Trainings
Upon admission to the Education Preparation Program Coursework
- Contact advisor for course direction and selection
- Prior to the practicum, take and pass the appropriate certificate exam
- Complete all program and/or degree requirements
- Candidate will be recommended to be certified
Time for completion does vary for each individual. The recommended timeline for completion for most candidates is 2 to 4 years.
