Campus Attractions
While 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ provides excellence in education, the university also offers an array of entertainment opportunities and other amenities for the community and area residents to enjoy.
Mabee Regional Heritage Center
Adjacent to the Museum of the Llano Estacado is the Jimmy Dean Museum that opened in 2016. Funded by the Jimmy Dean Foundation and Donna Dean Stevens, the museum chronicles the life of the late sausage entrepreneur and entertainer who grew up in Plainview.
Built in 1976 during the nation's bicentennial, the Laano Estacado Museum features exhibits on the region's history, as well as temporary exhibits that rotate thoughout the year. Admission is free and school groups are welcome to visit. Besides the historical displays, the museum offers a meeting space for use by reservation.
Abraham Family Art Gallery
Located in the lower level of the library, the Abraham Art Gallery hosts art exhibits of varying media, produced by local and regional artists, 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ student and alumni artists. The gallery also hosts numerous traveling national exhibits. 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ hosts the Texas Watercolor Society and the Plains Art Association annual shows, along with traveling shows by renowned artists. Admission to the gallery is free and is open to the public.
51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ University StoreHoused in the McClung University Center, the bookstore not only sales textbooks and supplies for academic purposes on campus, but also carries a wide array of Christian books, Bibles, music and WBU apparel. In addition, the store offers a variety of gifts, collectibles, and home decor options, and features a wedding and baby registry.
51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ AthleticsBeginning in the fall with football, wrestling, volleyball and soccer and then continuing through late spring with baseball and track and field, 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ athletes are active throughout the year.
Competing in the Sooner Athletic Conference, the university offers exciting sports competitions on the campus open to area residents for their enjoyment. Pioneer Soccer competes at Hilliard Field when at home, and Hutcherson Center is home court to Pioneer Volleyball, Pioneer Basketball, and Flying Queens Basketball during the fall and winter. Pioneer Baseball calls Wilder Field home, and the facility also hosts several high school playoff games, as do many of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ's venues. The Laney Center is home to the men’s and women’s wrestling teams, and golf, track and field, and cross country compete at various regional events. Promoting excellence in performance, the School of Music stages various concerts on the Harral main stage each semester.
