GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Faculty Member is responsible for the success and proper delivery of the assigned 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University School of Nursing academic program courses. Specific responsibilities will include teaching 33 credit hours or the equivalent each year to enhance the University’s standing as a provider of degree-granting related curriculum and developing a new curriculum.

The Faculty Member is expected to work under the direction of the School of Nursing Dean and Associate Dean, and collaboratively with other School of Nursing faculty, and all 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ employees in general, to facilitate student success and strengthen the university’s reputation by promoting excellence through curriculum development and instructional delivery.

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing ensures adherence to program policies, course objectives, program outcomes and current teaching, clinical, and simulation best practices and safety measures. This position is a 12-month, full-time placement. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required to fulfill the growing needs of the nursing program. This position will report to the Dean of the School of Nursing.

Faculty members are expected to provide systematic, meaningful classroom/clinical instruction that results in measurable student learning, retention, and placement. Active participation in school, campus, and university committees is required.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

Classroom Instruction: This position is a 12-month, full-time placement. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.  This position will report to the Dean of the School of Nursing.

Teach a minimum of 33 credits in 12 months. The teaching range may vary to meet required teaching needs each semester.

Provide and facilitate quality experiences in the classroom, clinical, and/or simulation lab to meet program needs.

TEACHING: Prepare & teach departmental courses to include:

  • Developing learner-centered lesson plans employing teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles.
  • Incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in the classroom and laboratory environments, and providing distance/online learning through the university’s adopted learning management system (currently Blackboard).
  • Creating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
  • Preparing, distributing, and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate.
  • Updating and revising curriculum to maintain currency.
  • Developing new courses as needed to support the instructional mission
    participating in the development and review of course and program/general education outcomes as appropriate.
  • Developing, conducting, and documenting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment to Christian Higher education and agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas/Texas Baptists in general and 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University in particular.

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Communicate effectively with all educators, administrative staff, and technical support staff.
  • Network with other lab/simulation coordinators or educators at local/state/national level to develop and utilize best practices.
  • Coordinate tours of simulation lab.
  • Prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, meeting all deadlines, checking for accuracy, correctness, and completeness of all data.
  • Exert an effort to remain current in discipline and instructional methods through professional development activities offered by the College and other opportunities, including attendance at off-campus activities, webinars, etc., as feasible.
  • Must maintain current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in Texas.
  • Participate in program and curriculum review, offering suggestions concerning the improvement of curriculum in keeping with the mission and vision of the University.
  • Serve on the Nursing Advisory Committee.
  • Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced co-curricular activities of the University as assigned.
  • Always maintain proper communication and supportive relationships with all other units and branches of the University.
  • Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the discipline, department, division, and University.
  • Participate in strategic planning and systematic program evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Earned master’s degree in nursing.
  • Doctorate in nursing, education, or related field preferred.
  • Teaching and clinical experience in the content area assigned.
  • Hold an unencumbered RN license in Texas or equivalent compact state licensure.
  • Maintain professional competence through activities such as nursing practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing.
  • Record of successful working relationships with internal and external constituencies, including faculty, students, alumni, and the larger professional management community.
  • Ability to work with external constituencies including business and industrial partners.
  • Proven experience as an instructor, teacher, professor, or faculty member within the Higher Education setting, or substantial education with industry experiences in area of study.
  • Teaching, research, and community service experience.
  • Maintaining appropriate credentials as required by accrediting bodies of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University and program accreditors.

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  2. Able to pass Background Checks.
