WBU Piano Competition

You are invited to participate in the 7th Annual WBU Piano Competition on Saturday, April 26, 2025 in Harral Auditorium on WBU's Plainview campus.  The junior division will begin at 10:00 am; the senior division will begin at 1:30 pm.  All students in grades 6-12 who are currently studying piano are eligible to compete for cash prizes. The competition will be conducted in two divisions.

Junior division pianists (grades 6-8) should present up to 10 minutes of music. Cash prizes totaling up to  $500 will be awarded to outstanding junior level pianists.

Senior division pianists (grades 9-12) should present up to 15 minutes of music. Cash prizes totaling up to  $1,000 will be awarded to outstanding senior level pianists.

As part of the 2025 competition, a special Edward MacDowell prize will be awarded to the pianist with the best performance of an original composition by the featured composer.  A cash prize of $100 will be awarded for the outstanding MacDowell performance.

Repertoire requirements:

Grades 6-8: up to 10 minutes of music representing at least 2 historical eras. One piece must be from the Baroque or Classical era ; the second piece must be from the 19th-21st century repertoire.   No more than 3 pieces may be performed. No more than 1 movement of a multi-movement work may be submitted.

Grades 9-12: up to 15 minutes of music representing at least 2 historical eras. One piece must be from the Baroque or Classical era ; the second piece must be from the 19th-21st century repertoire.  No more than 3 pieces may be submitted. No more than 1 movement of a multi-movement work may be submitted.

To register for the competition, complete the form below  for each pianist.  Your completed registration and fee of $20 must be received in the WBU offices no later than Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Incomplete submissions will not be eligible for entry in the competition. Credit card payment is available below; you may also send a check or money order to

Competition performance times will be confirmed with performers and teachers the week of April 21.   Winners will be announced at the conclusion of each division's competition on April 26.  Adjudicator comments will be sent to students/teachers after the competition, electronically.
